She advised me, don’t spend the time in your pajamas. I was lucky to take this advice to heart and with the exception of a couple of days, didn’t. Covid Brain Scheduling Frustrations Patience Racism Confusion Covid-19 Canada Day ©July 2020 - Janis Daly I’ll write Covid-19 Over and over But that won’t make it go away Stopped my life Stopped my plans Stopped everything. A new start And clock dinged one minute to 12 And the news increased Intensified Horrified Till we couldn’t breathe Without remembering With no justice There is no peace And the almighty dollar Cannot save the corruption of our spirits Only each of us can and must On our stolen land And breaking backs of the migrant labourers Oh Canada, my home But not my native land But someone else’s And still the land stealing and pain goes on and on A new green economy Lacking greed Needing seeds Needing a collective sigh Of our virtuousity To save ourselves I put the mask on and breathe Leaving through the front doors of uncertainty. | |
